Audition Information and Requirements
There is no audition fee, but there will be a $400 registration fee payable upon acceptance into Nassau-Suffolk Performing Arts.
You will be asked to perform a solo from the NYSSMA manual (or equivalent) and sight reading (no scales).
Only one audition appointment is required for each performing group, even if you are auditioning on multiple instruments (flute/piccolo, Bb/Eb clarinet, etc.)
All auditions (EXCEPT Vocal Jazz) will take place at East Meadow High School:

REQUIREMENTS:
Grade 7-12 (as of Fall of Next School Year)
Except Vocal Jazz: High School Only
- Symphonic:
- NYSSMA Level:
- Flutes: Level 6 Only
- Woodwinds, Percussion, Piano, and Bass: Levels 5 and 6
- Brass: Levels 4, 5, and 6
- Jazz:
- NYSSMA Level: 5 and 6
- Improvisation: Optional but strongly suggested
- Percussion:
- Snare Drum:
- Perform orchestra-style roll pp-ff-pp
- Perform 3 rudiments of choice (refer to NYSSMA manual)
- Solo and Sightreading
- You may be asked to demonstrate basic skills on tambourine (with head), triangle, and hand cymbals
- Demonstrate ability on mallet percussion and timpani (if any... see below)
- Timpani:
- Perform roll pp-ff-pp
- Demonstrate pitch awareness through pitch matching
- Solo and Sightreading
- Mallet Percussion:
- Major Scales
- Solo and Sightreading
- Demonstrate ability to play with four mallets
