Youth Band Audition Requirements

  • Student must be in the 5th or 6th grade
  • Student should prepare either a piece from the NYSSMA Manual (recommended), an etude from a method book, or a piece from their school band music. *Etude or band music should be selected to best demonstrate the student's ability level.
  • Student may play a chromatic scale in at least one octave (optional).
  • Percussion must demonstrate ability on snare drum (or pad) by performing a NYSSMA solo
